Christian Living

Whoever and wherever you are, you are welcome here at St Anne and All Saints Church. There is nothing you need to sign up for before you come along. This is a safe place to ask questions and explore faith.

Here are some of the things that are important to us.

We are Christian

One thing that means is that we are shaped by the life and teaching of Jesus Christ and rooted in Christianity's rich and ancient intellectual and spiritual tradition. And we love the richness that is to be found in surprising places. Some ways might be expressed by saying an ancient psalm, singing old hymns, or learning spiritual wisdom from other parts of the Christian family.

We are Anglican

The Church of England is a broad church with a rich history. It is the historical middle way between religious extremes. That can sometimes make it frustrating, but the careful, thoughtful approach is generally the safest. And the church must be a safe place for people. As a church, we are accountable and that matters a great deal.

We are Biblical

That is a phrase that can be taken many ways, but what it means at St Anne and All Saints Church is that we take the bible seriously, pay close attention to it week by week in our preaching, and wrestle with what it means, what God is saying to us today, and how to put it that into practice.

We are Sacramental

This is one of the areas that we have grown into over recent years. Christianity is not just about ideas, and it is about a relationship with God. And that relationship is experienced in various vital ways like prayer, worship, the bible, silence, and creation. But most notably in the central act of Christian Worship – Holy Communion. It is both a reminder of the main event in the Christian story and substantial participation in it. We share communion every other week and invite everyone to join in. If you would like to participate, you are welcome.

Although not as a creed, the following points positively express Christian life:

  • Seek the Sacred and all that is good, guided by the life and teachings of Jesus.
  • Affirm that there are many ways to experience the Sacred and that we can draw on diverse sources of wisdom on our spiritual journeys.
  • Please be aware that following Jesus leads us to act compassionately and confront evil.
  • Place hospitality at the centre of our communal and worshipping life and see sharing bread and wine as an expression of our common humanity.
  • Seek to build communities that accept all who wish to share companionship without insisting on conformity.
  • Know that how we behave towards others is the fullest expression of our faith.
  • Gain more insights in the search for understanding than we do in certainty.
  • Work together within and beyond the Church to achieve a peaceful, sustainable world.
